A Decade of Accomplishment

There is a small billboard near our home which reads "A life is measured by experiences" or something new-agey like that. The funny thing is that the slogan is an ad for Miller Genuine Draft Beer. I'm pretty sure that most MGD drinkers would rather if their lives weren't measured by their MGD experiences. I think that B and J would vouch for that.

I have reached a point where it is time for me to lay back and ponder my life. You see, I just turned 10 years old. It will be 10 years in January when J went to the Nampa, Idaho Animal Shelter and rescued me. I prefer to look at it more as if I rescued myself as I quickly sized up J as a good person as far as people go. With this assessment in mind I made eye contact with her and watched her pace the kennels which showed her that I am smart because she read somewhere that dogs who track well visually are usually smart or something like that. Anyhow due mainly to my intelligence and eye contact (and not barking like the other poor dogs in the shelter) I started my journey...

So here I am 10 years later. What have I accomplished? You see I am a working dog so accomplishment is important. I can show you something I haven't accomplished:

This chubby little squirrel has the nuts to walk around on my fence!!! If only he knew what I am capable of. You see in my life of accomplishment one of the things I am proudest of is that I am something of a hunter. This may seem morbid to some of you out there in blogland but it is who I am. I am a killer...

I have decided to dedicate my next few entries to some of the highlights of the last 10 years.

I dream of the kill, but just can't seem to follow thru. Except with that frikkin chihuahua at the end of the street. Someone always rushes in and saves him tho....

I feel your pain. I saw a squirrel today, playing like a little girl right in front of me. If it weren't for that darned leash...

Buster- I have often wondered if there wasn't some sinister connection between chihuahuas and squirrels. Small, irritable little creatures...
Cubby- How tortuous! You will have your day... Their brains are small and it's only a matter of time before one ends up within reach of your mighty jaws.

sid,

you've got it all wrong. YOU rescued J! and i hope you never let your oppressors forget how you saved them. i can't wait to see your memories. i'm probably between 12 and 14 but i've only had my apes for about four years.

it's funny. my sister ethel is always trying to catch things (and thinks if she stands on her hind legs she will get the squirrel at the top of the tree) and i'm not. but i have caught two rabbits this year and let 'em go. now, if someone walks in front of my house i'll let them have it (from safely inside the house, but still). but i don't have the hunting spirit.

maybe you should join the nra and then you could get an uzi to kill the squirrel in the "sporting" way.

Ruff Sid,

You need to get with Ivy to map out a skwerrel strategy.

My humans remembers shoppin' at King's. Dad still has his key ring Soopers card. A lot of goods it does him here. It doesn't work anywhere out here. He's tried. Arf! Arf!

So you're lookin' at more snows. Someone doesn't likes Denver. My mom's bro, who lives in Englewoods, went to Soopers and there was no milks, no breads and stuffs. They haven't been able to restock all the empty shelves from the last storm. And he saids that parkin' on the streets is a reeeeallys mess. Guess you knows all that.

I found my humans one two one two (six) years ago this month at the Dumb Friend's League. Thus my barkday on the oneth twoth, oneth twoth (20th). I played sick with kennel cough and pretended I was in heat. It worked but I had to wait to get my femininitys taken away and had meds for my cough. Whew! But it was worth it.

Hope you and B and J keep warms and your big ether connection stays connected. And you don't run out of foods.

Happy News Year!

Wuufs!

Squirrels are just there to warm the blood. Pappy measures his life in balls chased. He's getting up there.
