Hell Hound

Okay, is it just me or does this dog look she's been Photoshopped to meet some predetermined standards of beauty? Her eyes are suspiciously large and she looks distressingly similar to a Disney ingenue. I surprised they didn't give her breasts. What kind of message does this project to our puppies? Does it say that all bitches should desire to be sexual objects? Does this tell them that all bitches are meant to be pretty and vacant, good only for their looks? What about female dogs dressed like doctors or lawyers? Or what about a good old-fashioned witch or demon costume? Why do the children of the Great Oppressors get to run around dressed up like demons while those of us dogs who want to dress up like hellhounds and things that go bump in the night are subjected to these sorts of humiliations? If I were to partake in some sort of Halloween ritual, the following costumes fall more in line with my worldview. Bitches, I say we all demand a costume that defies stereotyped gendered roles. The spider is simply the finest dog costume I've seen. Chew up your Snow White costumes girls, and let's creepy crawly instead!

sid,

fine selection of costumes. the basset hound looks forlorn. but he probably would anyway.

i'm not sure i approve of halloween, though. why do KIDS get candy when they knock on your door and disturb your evening but when i go person to person begging i'm a called a pest. really--down with rugrats, up with hellhounds!

Onion- I wholeheartedly agree with the assessment of the spider costume. I assume that the pug thought it up.
Wally- Great Oppressor B does not believe in Halloween and grumbles incessantly about it until it is past. It does seem like a bit of a double standard to allow children to interrupt the quiet of a nice evening of home yet castigate we noble dogs for simply asking for a supplement to our daily kibble.
Sam-If I were going to dress up, I would go as a sick chicken. Get it? Bird flu!!!

Only a flippin golden retriever would dress up as Snow White.

The color of the basset hound's eyes add to the impact of its costume.

I will be attending a Pug-O-Ween celebration this weekend, so I will be on the lookout for costumes that reinforce negative gender stereotypes.

I did not see any examples that were too egregious at Pug-O-Ween today. My favorite was the bride of Pugenstein.

Mugsy-
ooh... I like it. How many pug/hot dog outfits were there? I will look at your blog to see if your costume is posted. My Great Oppressor is still hogging the computer right now.
